Jobs Numbers are Numbing

by Bradley Voight on 06/02/12

The unemployment rate went in the wrong direction for May and prospects for a continuing recovery dimmed. Unemployment is now at 8.2 percent. Let's dig a little deeper into the employment picture in America. There are 3 fast food joints on every corner each with a crew of about 20 people to run 3 shifts. According to Numberof.net there are actually some 160,000 fast food establishments in the U.S. These jobs pay barely enough to own a car if you are living at home with the parents, barely enough to subsist if you are on your own. Then you look at all other retail and service jobs which pay virtually nothing. Then you look at the low paying healthcare jobs and you can see that a good percentage of America is living hand to mouth.

It is really sad, but very true that America is in decline and the generation that is in their 20's is saving nothing. We better wake up and smell the coffee real soon or America will be unrecognizable in just 10 short years.

Small Time Recycling's Mission Statement

Our primary mission is to reclaim valuable recyclables from the waste stream and bring attention to the wastefulness of America. Currently we are recycling metals and e-waste. The Smalltime Blog is a non political commentary on metal, stock, currency and other markets. The Smalltime Blog is also where the hard lessons of a self taught investor are discussed.
