Wisconsin Recall Results and Why They Matter to You

by Bradley Voight on 06/11/12

The recent recall attempt in Wisconsin is an omen of things to come. Collective bargaining was ended for most public employees when Scott Walker took office. Now that the recall failed to unseat him, he will be going for public worker pensions next. In San Jose and San Diego, California a referendum just slashed their pensions. This is a trend that will continue nation wide over the next several years. There will be no safety nets in the future unless you make them yourselves.

My philosophy is take no handouts and believe no promises! I try to build my own safety nets and one way I do it is scrapping. I keep a stockpile of metal on hand and it acts like an extra savings account that I can use to keep out of my savings.

Why Small Time?

by Bradley Voight on 06/04/12

Most of us love sports, I know I do, and everyone who loves sports loves the guy that does the little things. You know the stuff that wins games but does not show up in the stat column. The gritty dirty work in the trenches that gets few highlights on sports center, but is essential for victory.

Small contributions matter and in the world of recycling too. Each new person who starts to recycle adds a little more material that: 1. Won't have to be mined or otherwise obtained from the planet. 2. Won't take up landfill space 3. Will add commerce to local economies. I want to help you maximize the amount of cash you can make to give you an incentive to do what really needs to be done anyway. That's our mission here, should you choose to accept it.

Jobs Numbers are Numbing

by Bradley Voight on 06/02/12

The unemployment rate went in the wrong direction for May and prospects for a continuing recovery dimmed. Unemployment is now at 8.2 percent. Let's dig a little deeper into the employment picture in America. There are 3 fast food joints on every corner each with a crew of about 20 people to run 3 shifts. According to Numberof.net there are actually some 160,000 fast food establishments in the U.S. These jobs pay barely enough to own a car if you are living at home with the parents, barely enough to subsist if you are on your own. Then you look at all other retail and service jobs which pay virtually nothing. Then you look at the low paying healthcare jobs and you can see that a good percentage of America is living hand to mouth.

It is really sad, but very true that America is in decline and the generation that is in their 20's is saving nothing. We better wake up and smell the coffee real soon or America will be unrecognizable in just 10 short years.

Extra Benefits of Scrapping

by Bradley Voight on 05/31/12

A strange phenomenon occurs when you start scrapping metal. People want to give you stuff! A lady at my work gives me bags of coke cans about once a month. Another couple at my work gave me some floor scrubbers which I got about two pounds of copper out of, 2 pumps and 2 electric motors! It goes on and on.

All you have to do is say that you scrap metal and people will shower you with their scrap and cans. That is the beauty of being what I call a 'scrapper of opportunity', I do not go out of my way to pick up anything. Things I find are in or on my way or they are given to me. Within less than 40 days and honestly less than 10 hours of my time I have accumulated $200 worth of metal after just cashing in $182 worth last month. I have since created my own wire stripper so I can get a higher price for my copper this time around. I will post a video of my new wire stripper soon so stay tuned.

Small Time Recycling's Mission Statement

Our primary mission is to reclaim valuable recyclables from the waste stream and bring attention to the wastefulness of America. Currently we are recycling metals and e-waste. The Smalltime Blog is a non political commentary on metal, stock, currency and other markets. The Smalltime Blog is also where the hard lessons of a self taught investor are discussed.
