New Video Now Showing

by Bradley Voight on 05/13/12

Our first video is up. We will produce a series of short videos discussing ways to maximize your gain from recycling. I want to focus on how minimize your effort and cost. You do not want to spend ANY cash to do this or it really isn't worth it. That being said if you care at all about the Earth, then you have another motive to do this.

Aluminum for instance is very dirty to make and consumes tremendous amounts of power so every can you keep out of the landfill is one less that has to be made. Cans are the cornerstone of your metals collection because they are everywhere. When you toss in some copper and stainless and lead etc. you can walk out of the scrap yard with a sum that is worth your while. A funny thing happens when you start keeping cans, people throw them at you and if you are not willing to pick through trash cans, like I am, then that is a second way to accumulate cans. Put a bucket at your work labeled cans and watch it fill up. People hate cans but they love to give them to you!

When you start looking around you see that very few people are "going green" at all. When I look into a gas station trash can I see 5 plastic bottles for every 1 aluminum can. Since there is nowhere to get paid for plastic, then they go to the landfill. Plastics are petroleum based so it's kind of like dumping oil into landfills. If Smalltime recycling moves forward as planned, we will become the buyer of plastic bottles in the Indy area.

We're shifting focus

by Bradley Voight on 05/09/12

The original idea of a recycling drop off center is not dead, but we are going to focus on blogging to raise awareness as to just how much of our waste is being reused, recycled, or reduced. As you will see, much more could be done and that's where we come in. Smalltime is now focused on educating the public about a variety of issues regarding the recycling process and how you can cash in by just simply keeping your eyes open and picking up a few things you see all the time but ignore. We will be using videos, articles, and other resources to help you put some extra cash in your pocket and at the same time you will be helping the environment and helping the economy by selling your scrap. We are not talking about becoming full time scrappers or getting rich. We are simply talking about a little extra cash a couple of times a year.

Smalltime still believes the need exists for a drop off center that would accept the items on my materials list (Materials Page). I personally see corrugated paper and plastic bottles everywhere and they are just going to the landfill to take up more space or into a stream and subsequently the ocean.

So welcome everyone to the new Smalltime Recycling blog and stay tuned for lots of valuable information.

New video to come

by Bradley Voight on 03/12/12

I am going to go to some of the most littered spots I know on the south side of Indy and capture some footage of just how much useable recyclable material is on the ground. All this litter flows through the rivers and streams to the ocean that is why it needs to be picked up and Small Time provides the incentive.

People in America will soon see that every little penny they can muster will be needed to keep households afloat as the cost of every staple item continues on an upward trajectory. Just a few bucks a week will be another meal or some extra fuel or needed medicine.

Since 2000, the price of everything you need to survive has increased 33-45%. I know you all have noticed that. In America, that has just eaten into disposable income, but the next 25% increase will begin to take a huge toll that most of us are not prepared for.

Traffic

by Bradley Voight on 03/09/12

I see that our Craigslist post has generated a small stream of visitors. Thank you for your interest in Small Time. We have yet to hear from anyone though and that's ok, but we have noticed that a visitor here and there will spend some time on the site. I stated that I do not need financial assistance but there are unknowns in the future that I have not priced in yet so some outside investment may be needed and any such funds would be swapped for ownership in the company. I currently operate as EOS Enterprises Inc. This is an S-corp which has a max of 100 shareholders. Again I wish to thank all of you for your interest and hope to hear from someone soon!

Welcome

by Bradley Voight on 03/08/12

Hello, my name is Brad Voight. I am the president of E.O.S Enterprises Incorporated. Eos was actually the name of a pet rat my wife and I had early on in our marriage. My idea is simply a drop off site for recyclables and of course I realize this is not a new concept. What is new is that at this point in time nearly everything we use can be recycled. Curb side is great, the drop off sites are not so great for the dropper because they get nothing for their effort, so until curbside is mandatory, Small Time hopes to fill that void. But we are also very concerned about the litter situation in Indianapolis and also the homelessness uptrend. If I can create a place where people down on their luck could make a quick buck without being hassled or ridiculed, that is my vision.

I recently took some cans that I picked up off the streets of my neighborhood to Omnisource and they treated my like I stole them. It took almost an hour to sell them $65 worth of aluminum. I don't want Small Time to be like that. I want a system that recognizes human dignity and worth. I see a company that cares about the little guy, the very small guy who NEEDS the money. One way to accomplish this is to not accept commonly stolen materials at all. Another way is to innovate the drop off and payment process to make it fast and easy. At Small Time you become a member, receive your debit card, and then start selling your items to us. All you need is a photo ID and your Small Time debit card to start earning extra cash. Once you are a member we can fast track the process each time you visit.

I hope this was helpful and I hope to hear from the right person to help me bring this to reality. By the way, our current list of accepted materials is NOT set in stone as are many other details. I have an account on scrapmonster.com to locate buyers for our collected materials and also there are buyers here in town for glass and plastics, they are just waiting on me to come up with the bulk they require.

Thank you for your time,
Brad
